Update 4: Scotland and Phase 3

Hello and thank you for your patience as you have waited for this latest update!

We have two developments to share with you:

1. Filming at the University of Aberdeen last December went incredibly well. Scroll below for a brief description of our time in Aberdeen and some behind-the-scenes photos!

2. We are currently working in Phase 3: Editing/Post-Production. More on this below as well!

Filming at the University of Aberdeen

In addition to Dr. John Swinton, we had the privilege of interviewing three additional scholars during our time in Scotland: Dr. Armand Léon van OmmenDr. Brian Brock, and Dr. Grant Macaskill

Each interview was truly remarkable. All four experts shared a number of profound insights on the topic of faith and disability and we are confident their work will be a tremendous resource for the Church. We cannot wait to share their thoughts with you.

A huge thank you to all the professors at the University of Aberdeen for their outstanding work in this field, their generosity in sharing their scholarship with us, and their warm hospitality during our time on campus!

Below, you'll find a quote from each of them, along with some behind-the-scenes photos from their interviews. Enjoy!

   Dr. John Swinton Interview

“When Paul talks about the Body of Christ, the thing that marks the Body of Christ is not normality, but diversity. It's how the different members of the Body get together. So the idea of ‘normality’ as we construct it culturally and socially is challenged by the idea of the Body of Christ, within which only Jesus really is normal.”

   Dr. Brian Brock Interview

“...when you start losing your sight, or losing your hearing, or it becomes difficult to walk, or your knees start to hurt...some spiritual work needs to start. [You come] to terms with [the reality that] human life has limits, it has challenges, and this is the life God has given you. People with disabilities have typically had to do that work very early on...and [have] quite a lot to teach most Christians.”

   Dr. Armand Léon van Ommen

Dr. van Ommen commented on Philippians 2:5 where we are encouraged to share in Christ's mindset:

“...‘mindset’ is not something just cognitive or something rational. ‘Mindset’ has a much broader connotation. [It] is embodied living. So the invitation or command to follow Christ becomes invitation to live a life of love, and living a life of love is always practical, it's always embodied, it's always tangible.”

           Dr. Grant Macaskill

“Much of what we want to emphasize is that when we approach autism and autistic people as a gift, their worth lies in the worth that God has invested them with and not the worth that they yield to the productivity of the community....But once you recognize that, then the contributions that they make begin to be seen and to be recognized, and those contributions may not conform to our expectations of productivity. What they represent is the community enjoying together the life of God.”

Phase 3: Editing/Post-Production

We started editing this past January! We are sifting through the interviews and scenes we captured and sequencing them together in a way that makes creative and logical sense. Pictured above is our editing in action! We still have a long way to go but it is moving along and we are excited with how it is coming together.

Regarding completion, we are aiming to have it finished this year! We will also release some updated trailers in the coming months as well so keep your eyes out for those.

What’s Next?

We will post any new releases here including trailers and the final documentary short film, so stay tuned!

We cannot say thank you enough to all who have invested their prayers, time, energy, talents, and finances into this work. So many of you have come together to make this project a reality and we are immensely grateful for your contributions. Moreover, we are excited to see what the Lord does with this project in our churches. Our prayer is that it would prepare us all to partner with the Holy Spirit in bringing more of God's kingdom to earth.
